The Dougherty County Youth Orchestra was founded by its former Music Director Mr. Sergio Rodriguez in 1997. During these years because of the hard work of Dougherty County School System orchestra teachers the group has considerably improved the quality of the performances. It is made up of forty middle and high school orchestra students of the Dougherty County School System and private music students of the community.

The Orchestra rehearses at Dougherty High School Orchestra Room under the professional coaching of Mr. Alexander Reshetnichenko. The concerts are being held at Albany State University, Billy C. Black auditorium (former ACAD).

The Orchestra performs several major concerts each year including Winter and Spring Concerts. Every spring DCYO participate in one of the music festivals. The festival destinations are different each year and include Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, TN; Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA; Universal Studious, Orlando, FL; Carowinds, Charlotte, NC.

The Dougherty Youth Symphony Orchestra continues to provide a new venue of cultural activity to our Southwest Georgia community.
